Rinse, Spit, Run

Here’s an alternative to guzzling sweets liquids during a race: just rinsing your mouth with a sports drink can help you run faster, according to the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism. In a study runners wet their mouths with either a carbohydrate or placebo solution before and during a 30-minute treadmill run at a self selected pace. The carbs group ran 115 meters farther than the placebo group. Study author Ian Rollo, PhD©, says the promise of an energy sourse may trigger reward centers in your brain, so your body is prepared for increased effort.
